Launch of Social Watch Report 2007 in the Philippines
Social Watch Philippines released its global report last November, to coincide with the conclusion of the National Consultation on Financing for Development that was attended by civil society groups and discussed the status of the country’s programs to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Launch of Social Watch Report 2007 in Tanzania
On December 12 Tanzania Social Watch Coalition held a Press conference to launching of the 2007 Social Watch Report. The Conference was attended by different stakeholders who discussed the report in detail and promised to use the same as an advocacy tool on Social Security Issues. The event was covered by different print and electronic media.

The death by suicide of a twelve-year old girl from Davao due to extreme poverty has touched the collective conscience of the country. People of consequence, from the President down to bureaucrats, social anthropologists, civil society organizations, and media personalities have endeavored to explain why a child would commit suicide.

Somali Civil Society to join Social Watch Network
Thirty participants attended a workshop held at the Mogadishu' Sahafi II hotel on Tuesday and Wednesday 20th and 21st of November 2007. SOCDA organised the gathering in order to highlight the importance of civil society networks.

The Social Watch Report 2007 entitled “In dignity and rights. Making the universal right to social security a reality” was launched October 24 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, in the context of the United Nations High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development (Ffd).

Launch of Social Watch Report 2007 and Panel Discussion at the United Nations
The Social Watch Report 2007 entitled “In dignity and rights. Making the universal right to social security a reality” will be launched at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in New York, in the context of the United Nations High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development to be held from October 23 to 24 at United Nations Headquarters. The Hearings with the civil society will precede de HLD, and are scheduled for October 22.

Citizens' monitoring process can make a big Difference to the implementation of Development Programmes
A civil society delegation representing the National Social Watch Coalition (NSWC) engaged in a meaningful interaction with the Planning Commission around the Citizens' Report on Governance and Development 2007 and the monitoring of the key institutions of governance namely Parliament, Executive- Policy, Judiciary and Local self Governance. Deputy Chairperson of the Planning Commission Mr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia and the Planning Commission Members actively participated in the discourse.

Last August 15-16, forty-two national networks of civil society organizations met in Quezon City to assess the government's Philippines Mid-term Progress Report on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs.) They also considered the alternative assessment of Social Watch.

Exclusive charter for Walayar check-post
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government will come out with a Citizens’ Charter exclusively for the Walayar check-post, through which roughly 50 per cent of all goods from outside reach Kerala, on September 1, Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac said here on Friday. Releasing the ‘Citizens’ Report on Governance and Development’, brought out by Social Watch India, Dr. Isaac said the Assembly Subject Committee on Finance would visit the check-post on October 11.
