Social Watch Report 2008 - Keys to Overcome the Crisis

Social Watch

The Social Watch Report 2008, Rights is the Answer, will be launched on a global scale on November 27, in Doha, Qatar, during the Civil Society Forum "Investing in People-Centered Development". The launch will include a discussion panel that will address the links between human rights, development and economic globalization in the context of the multiple current crisis, which is financial, environmental and social.

The Social Watch Report 2008, which in addition to documenting the compliance (or non-compliance) by governments with their commitments to reduce poverty and end gender inequality, offers the perspective of dozens of civil society organizations on the connection between the enjoyment of all aspects of human rights and trade, investment, and economic policies. The main message of the Report is that in order to find a way out of the crisis that currently affects the planet, we must put emphasis on the rights of the global population, which up until now have been relegated by the financial architecture that has made inequality spiral out of control.

Taking as a starting point the analyses of the national contributions contained in Rights is the Answer, which this time reaches the record number of 59, the panelists at the Report launch will explore possible alternatives that could help to transform the global desire for rights and dignity for all, into reality.

In addition to the global Report launch, national launches organized by Social Watch coalitions will take place in Paraguay, Spain, Germany, Costa Rica, Argentina, El Salvador, Zambia, and Ghana, among other countries, over the next two months.
